Correlating FEA Results

Finite element analysis is based on matrix algebra. Problem solving needs first defining the problem and specifying it in modelling environment using graphical display and property manager. But the software internally converts it first into mechanical problem and then solves it, and then superimposes mathematical results onto the model to see the stresses,  displacements, etc.

So, defining problem is the most important step, and if there is error, the answer will be irrelevant / wrong. So, any new user / organisation should first try and solve some known problems using FEA and cross-check if FEA answers are matching with known results. This is called correlation. In this session, we will show how SolidWorks FEA can be correlated to some known classical real-life problems.

Product design data needs to be reused and revised. If data can be easily re-used, it avoids data duplication and wasted efforts in finding data. PDM also provides workflows for design approval and release.

Paperless Drawings and Inspection 

Manufacturers are now involved in many innovations. They want their designers to spend more time in creating innovative concepts and detailing. But drafting creation needs to be automated and removed from designer’s responsibility.

3D CAD vendors now provide auto-creating 3D annotations in models, and allow designers to choose which dimensions can be seen in which view. PDF files of drawings can be auto-created for manufacturing documentation. Paperless drawings or even releasing 3D models with annotations is the new trend.

Quality engineers are required to use drawings to specify important dimensions and create inspection reports from drawings. Further, use of digital measuring tools can capture and compare dimensions on drawing and physical job.
